Abstract: During the manufacturing process, various raw materials and finished goods have to be handled in manufacturing industries. As the shapes and material properties of each raw material and finished good to be dealt with are different, it becomes difficult for a single-head crane to handle diverse materials. Currently, forklifts and hook-headed cranes are used for this purpose; however, they require a significant amount of labour and time to handle materials and finished goods due to the miscellaneous work associated with these pieces of equipment. Considering today’s industrial requirements, it is inevitable for every manufacturing company to utilise the least manpower possible to offer competitive prices to customers without compromising the timely completion of projects. A trihead gantry crane is one of the most effective solutions for handling a wide range of raw materials and finished goods with minimal manpower and time. The tri-headed gantry crane head consists of electromagnets to hold flat surfaces of magnetic materials, where the grab helps in keeping the cylindrical, square, and rectangular materials finally if the material or a finished good is not in the shape that can be handled by using grab or magnetic heads, then we can use hook arrangement. The project involves a study of various types of handling equipment being used in manufacturing industries, modelling and fabrication of a tri-headed gantry crane model and testing of the mechanisms of the model for handling diverse shaped materials [3].
