Abstract: The article touchs upon the problem of polychromatic images segmentation. It is a very urgent issue, because today the sphere of electronic mapping has rapidly been evolving. The research aims at developing a technique of adaptive segmentation and implementing it as a program for a PC. Aerial snapshots taking from the countryside are treated as objects of our research. The developed method combines background areas detection, edge detection and dimensions selection. The experiment has been carried out. It proves the effeciency of the developed technique.
