Abstract: The manual inspection of leather is sluggish and labor-intensive tasks, they can become precarious in the entire production process. In the present study an attempt has been made to investigate the Heat Affected Zone (HAZ) of leather during the laser cutting process due to the thermal effect caused by a laser at the cut contour edges. To inspect this, a machine vision system is used to capture images of the laser cut edges and then process it using MATLAB to acquire the required information for assessing the quality of leather. The leather can be categorized as good, average or poor quality based on the acquired information for the respective application. As a result, the degree of burn of the leather was determined.
